Interfraternity Council
The Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the governing council for 32 of our men’s fraternities, most of which are associated with the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC). IFC plans and implements various educational and leadership programs for its chapter members, while also providing guidance for policy, procedure, recruitment, academic issues, and governance.

Eligibility:
To be eligible for the IFC Executive Board, you must meet all of the following requirements
At least a 2.8 Cumulative GPA
In Good Standing with your chapter
Must have been initiated into your chapter for at least a year
Must be an undergraduate student at Virginia Tech for the duration of the term
For President: Must have been either a Chapter President or previously served on the IFC Executive Board

Position Descriptions:
President
- Represent all Interfraternity Council members in all matters pertaining to the Community, the University, and other universities.
- Conduct the meetings of the Interfraternity Council Presidents’ Council.
- Call regular and special meetings of the Executive Board, and the Interfraternity Council Presidents’ Council.
- Coordinate and administer all activities of the Interfraternity Council.
- Appoint all non-elected chairmen with the approval of the majority of the members of the president’s council.
- Create an even distribution of chapters among the executive board members.
- Attend Town Gown meetings.
- Actively serve as the liaison between IFC, NPHC, and UCFS.
- Oversee all public and private functions of the Interfraternity Council and be versed in all Interfraternity Council activities and operations.
- Act in the best interest of and represent the Interfraternity Council and fraternal community.
Vice President of Recruitment
Oversee and execute council-wide recruitment strategies to ensure consistent growth within our community.
Direct, plan, coordinate, and publicize all functions and activities relating to Recruitment.
Report all recruitment violations to the Vice President of Community Standards
Consult regularly with chapter officials regarding rules, procedures, guidelines, and organization of Recruitment activities.
Publish and educate all Interfraternity Council members on Recruitment Rules on a regular basis.
Vice President of Finance
Create and oversee semester budget for IFC
Update the existing dues spreadsheet with brotherhood counts, GPA, attendance, etc.
Submit PPFs for any IFC-related purchases.
Keep accurate records of all payments and transactions.
Coordinate with fraternities regarding payments and financial updates.
Submit budget requests for additional funding for activities/events.
Vice President of Health and Safety
Organize center street such as the cleanup and dumpsters. Along with that assuring all fraternities are aware and follow the risk management policy for center street.
Checking over chapters risk management policies and answering any questions they may have.
Setting up training events along with guest speakers to better educate risk managers.
Meet with Blacksburg police department and facilitate the adopt a cop program.
Host roundtables with risk managers.
Vice President of Community Standards
Maintain the Interfraternity Council Standards and complete all necessary correspondence to National Organizations, the University, and the Community that pertains to standards issues.
Coordinate an investigation team to look into possible violations of Interfraternity Council bylaws.
Responsible for training and establishing a yearly-standards committee.
Chair the IFC Standards Board to hold organizations accountable to the IFC Bylaws.
Serve as liaison to the Office of Student Conduct to work in partnership for holding IFC organizations accountable to the Student Code of Conduct and the IFC Bylaws.
Vice President of Administration
Keeps track of agendas for executive board and general council meetings, distributing the agenda to all necessary parties
Tracks chapter attendance at general council meetings
Ensures the IFC webpage is updated with the most current information
Assumes the role of President in his absence
Vice President of New Member Education
Be responsible for a minimum of (3) educational events for all new members as required by all governing documents of the Interfraternity Council.
Develop and implement Total Member Educational materials to be disseminated and facilitated within the Interfraternity Council member organizations.
Work in conjunction with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and the Interfraternity Council Executive Board to plan and coordinate aforementioned events.
Plan and coordinate the yearly speaker sponsored by the Interfraternity Council
Plan and coordinate appropriate educational events for the Fraternity Community; including education focused on the ritual and creed of IFC organizations.
One new member event must include education on University and NIC risk management policies.
Work with chapters to maintain up to date new member rosters.
Director of Athletics
Coordinate and administer all Interfraternity Athletic Events as outlined in Article XV.
Keep accurate records for awarding the Hokie Grail.
Ensure that all athletic events are held, organized, and officiated in a fair, non-biased manner.
Publish and make available the Athletic Rules to all Interfraternity Council members.
Educate all member organizations on proper sportsmanship.
Director of Scholarship
Take an active role in helping member fraternities meet and exceed all minimum standards for membership.
Convene chapter scholarship chairs at least once each semester for a roundtable discussion.
Actively promote and inspire high academic achievement by all Interfraternity Council member organizations.
Refer all organizations in violation of Interfraternity Council Academic Standards to the Vice President of Community Standards
Help in the planning and booking of rooms on campus necessary for different events or meetings
Aid in any way necessary to tasks needed to be done by all members of the Executive Board of the Interfraternity Council at Virginia Tech
Director of Philanthropy
Act as a resource for the Greek Community in planning and coordinating chapter philanthropic activities including but not limited to providing an up to date calendar of philanthropies.
Work with chapters struggling with their philanthropy to help combine efforts with another fraternal organization
Serve on the executive team every Fall for the annual Greeks Giving Back day of community service.
Assist the Big Event executive team every Spring to ensure maximum participation among fraternities.
Develop and seek community service opportunities for fraternity chapters throughout the term of office.
Develop and seek at least 1 service opportunity per semester for the Interfraternity Executive Council.
Director of University Initiatives and Advocacy
Serve on the Undergraduate Student Senate, representing all IFC Fraternity members (attend bi-weekly meetings and serve on a committee)
Meet with numerous VT Department Officials (Tim Sands, Director of Facilities, Vice Deans, Director of Undergrad
Admissions, and more) and gain insight on what we can do better as a council from their perspective
Serve on outside committees such as the Blacksburg Community Advisory Board (CAB) and Greeks Go Green (GGG) as a representative for the IFC
Communicate University plans and directives to the executive board and chapter presidents and assist in publishing newsletters to the community.
Director of Public Relations
Manage the social media presence of the Interfraternity Council.
Publicize information relevant to the interests of the Interfraternity Council or its constituent members.
Promote events and initiatives that are of benefit to the Interfraternity Council or its constituent members.
Attending meetings or miscellaneous events where attendance of an IFC representative would maintain or improve the public image of the Interfraternity Council.
