Celebrating Excellence, Embracing Growth

A message from the Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life

Dear Fraternity and Sorority Life Community of Virginia Tech,

Welcome back to campus! As we begin the 2025–2026 academic year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible momentum we built together last year and share our excitement for what’s ahead.

2024–2025 was a year of excellence and impact.

Our Fraternity and Sorority Life community earned national recognition across all four governing councils—a testament to your leadership, service, and commitment to living out our shared values:

  • The Interfraternity Council (IFC) was named Outstanding IFC by the North American Interfraternity Conference and received the Outstanding Community Impact Award for initiatives like Men’s Health Week and partnerships with the Blacksburg Police Department.
  • The Panhellenic Council (PHC) earned a prestigious Excellence Award from the National Panhellenic Conference and a Three-Star Compass Award for Accountability from AFLV Central.
  • The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) received Three-Star Compass Awards for Education and Collaboration from AFLV Central, recognizing their efforts in member education and community engagement.
  • The United Council of Fraternities & Sororities (UCFS) celebrated a first-place win in the Order of Omega Case Study Competition at AFLV Central, showcasing the strength of our emerging chapters.

Beyond awards, our community and governing councils hosted powerful programs including: Oak Lane Trick or Treat, the Dr. Zenobia L. Hikes Homecoming Yard Show, the Overton R. Johnson Step Show, and the Adopt-A-Cop initiative. We welcomed national speakers on hazing prevention, mental health, and sexual assault, and expanded our chapter coaching and peer mentorship models to support student success. Many of your chapters had outstanding philanthropic and service efforts, award-winning programs, attended summer conventions, hosted alumni or family celebrations, and so much more!

This summer has been one of growth and focus for our professional office. We are proud of the updates to our Standards of Excellence Program and hope you will find the updates to the accreditation program and our data collection useful. Additionally, our team has grown by three new professional staff members. They are each excellent professionals in their own right and join our dedicated team, who are here to coach, guide, and connect with you: https://fsl.vt.edu/about/fsl_leadership_team.html

  • Zack Pfeifer, Associate Director
  • Justin Brown, Assistant Director for Oak Lane
  • Tianna Pride, Coordinator

As we look ahead, let’s carry forward this positive energy of growth and excellence in the community into the 25-26 academic year. Let’s continue to raise the bar, support one another, and lead with the spirit of Ut Prosim (That I may Serve). Here’s to another year of friendship, fraternal values, and community impact!

Go Hokies!
