Recruitment and Intake Information by Council

Recruitment looks a little different depending on which council you are interested in joining. If you have questions about any of these processes or aren't sure where to start, no worries! You can email us at gogreek@vt.edu and we're glad to help get you connected!

Interfraternity Council (IFC)- First-year students can join IFC Fraternities as early as the Fall semester of their first year. IFC has formal and informal recruitment in both the Fall and Spring semesters, so there are lots of opportunities for you to find your fraternity home throughout your time at Virginia Tech. Before recruitment, all interested students need to plan to attend a mandatory IFC Information session where we will introduce you to our fraternities, share information about what to expect, review the Commitment to a Hazing-Free Experience, and answer any questions you have. To learn more information about IFC Recruitment and the mandatory sessions, please visit the IFC Recruitment Hub.

National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)- Interested in joining one of our NPHC fraternities or sororities? Each chapter handles their own Membership Intake, but we'll share some advice on how to get connected! We encourage you to follow @vt_nphc on social media and attend any (or ALL) NPHC Council events! We'll also be hanging out in the Black Cultural Center each week- don't be afraid to come kick it with us. Additionally, each of our chapters will post events and information sessions on their social media accounts, so you'll want to follow those, too, and we strongly recommend that you attend all of their events!

NPHC Fraternities:                                   NPHC Sororities:

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.            Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.              Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.             Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

Panhellenic Council (PHC)- Panhellenic Formal Recruitment is the primary method by which new members join our Panhellenic sororities, and that takes place in January each year. For first-year students, this is the first opportunity that students have to join a Panhellenic sorority. Registration for Formal Recruitment begins early in the fall semester, and 2024 Recruitment will take place in January 2024 before classes begin.

Returning students and transfer students who have completed 12 or more college credits (after high school graduation) are eligible to participate in informal recruitment or COB as early as the Fall semester. Not every chapter is eligible for COB, but this is a great way to join a Panhellenic sorority in a less structured process. Each chapter that is eligible will host COB events and they will typically advertise those on their social media accounts.

United Council of Fraternities and Sororities (UCFS)- Each chapter within UCFS conducts their own recruitment and intake processes, so we encourage you to get to know these chapters and check out their social media accounts for the most accurate recruitment or intake information.
